Dave Mustaine Leaves Door Open To Solo Work Following Megadeth’s Planned Farewell

With Megadeth officially nearing the end of their legendary run, Dave Mustaine is still weighing what life after the band could look like. The thrash metal icons announced in August 2025 that they would be winding things down following a multi-year farewell tour, citing health concerns as a contributing factor in the decision.

That final chapter will be supported by the band’s recently released self-titled studio album, which has been positioned as Megadeth’s last. While a live album capturing the farewell tour seems likely, Mustaine has not fully ruled out the possibility of continuing on with a solo career once the band officially calls it a day.

When asked by Teraz Rock whether he could envision pursuing a more stripped-down or personal solo project after Megadeth’s retirement, Mustaine offered a characteristically candid and conflicted response:

“I might. I don’t think so. I might. I might. Right now, things are going so great for us, we’re not even really thinking about the end. We’re thinking about the beginning of this, this campaign, and heading out and showing this music to our fans.”

For now, Mustaine says the focus remains squarely on the farewell run itself, which has already been seeing strong demand across multiple markets:

“We’ve been looking at the tours that we’ve got on our schedule, and everything’s doing really well ticket-wise. Dates are selling out way in advance.”

He went on to explain how that demand has already resulted in expanded venue configurations:

“Some places will be set up for, say, for example, 7,000 seats and they’ve got some seats up in the top that they’ve blocked off… And we’ve had a lot of concerts already that has — it’s gone to a bigger-size venue.”

While Mustaine’s long-term plans remain unresolved, the momentum behind Megadeth’s farewell campaign appears to be giving him little reason to look too far beyond the present. Whether that eventually leads to a solo chapter or a full retirement remains an open question.
