Dope frontman Edsel Dope has officially reached a trademark agreement with the newly formed supergroup doPE, the side project of Chuck D (Public Enemy, ex-Prophets Of Rage) and John Densmore (The Doors). The duo recently announced their debut album ‘no country for old men’, set for release April 18.
Edsel, as the owner of the Dope trademark, reached out to the rock and rap legends last month to propose a mutually agreeable arrangement regarding their use of the name for the project. According to Chuck D, an agreement has now been finalized, clearing the way for the album and project to proceed as planned.
In a statement shared yesterday, Chuck D expressed his appreciation for Edsel’s cooperation:
“We would like to send a special shout out to Edsel Dope from the band Dope for giving us his blessing, surrounding the trademarked usage of the name Dope for our ‘no country for old men’ collaboration. We appreciate his love and support.”
With this agreement in place, doPE can move forward without legal obstacles, and fans can look forward to the April release of the first music from this unique collaboration between two generations of iconic artists.
