Electric Callboy have issued a statement after a social media post shared following their performance at Pinkpop Festival in Landgraaf, Netherlands, drew criticism from some fans.
The now-deleted post featured footage of concertgoers alongside the caption:
“POV: We’re here for Zara Larsson.
Electric Callboy: Not yet.”

While the band intended the post as a joke about the situation, some fans interpreted it as mocking people in the crowd who were waiting for Zara Larsson’s performance. According to Electric Callboy, the misunderstanding also led to hateful comments directed at those shown in the video, prompting them to remove the post.
In a statement shared on social media, the band explained their decision.
“HEY GUYS, YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED THAT WE DELETED OUR LAST POST. THE VIDEO WAS TAKEN DURING OUR SET AT PINKPOP. WE FOUND THE SITUATION FUNNY AND SHARED IT BECAUSE IT MADE US LAUGH. THE JOKE WAS ABOUT THE SITUATION, NOT THE PEOPLE.
UNFORTUNATELY, SOME PEOPLE INTERPRETED IT DIFFERENTLY, WHILE OTHERS USED IT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEAVE HATEFUL COMMENTS AND BE UNKIND TOWARDS PEOPLE IN THE CROWD. THAT WAS NEVER OUR INTENTION, AND IT’S NOT SOMETHING WE SUPPORT.”
The band went on to reaffirm their support for all styles of music and emphasized that fans should feel welcome regardless of which artist they came to see.
“MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE. WE’VE SUPPORTED ALL GENRES OF MUSIC SINCE DAY ONE, AND ANYONE WHO KNOWS US KNOWS HOW MUCH WE LOVE BRINGING DIFFERENT INFLUENCES TOGETHER. THOSE PEOPLE WERE THERE BECAUSE THEY WERE EXCITED TO SEE AN ARTIST THEY LOVE, JUST LIKE MANY OF YOU COME TO OUR SHOWS BECAUSE YOU’RE EXCITED TO SEE US.”
Electric Callboy concluded by saying that fostering a positive community is more important than keeping a divisive social media post online.
“AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE’D RATHER HAVE A COMMUNITY THAT IS WELCOMING AND RESPECTFUL THAN A POST THAT DIVIDES PEOPLE. TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER.”
