Emma Boster of Dying Wish and Nate Bergman of Lionize have joined forces for a stripped-down Americana-inspired cover of Death Cab For Cutie’s beloved 2005 single “I Will Follow You Into The Dark.”
The collaboration marks the first public glimpse into a larger creative partnership currently developing between the two musicians.
According to Bergman, the connection between himself and Boster began unexpectedly while attending memorial services for a mutual friend in both New York and Los Angeles. He later discovered that Boster and her husband, Jeremy DePoyster of The Devil Wears Prada, were living nearby in Nashville.
Bergman also revealed that the pair are actively working together on a still-unannounced project.
“After a chance encounter at two memorial services in New York and Los Angeles for a mutual friend, I figured out that Emma and her husband [Jeremy DePoyster of The Devil Wears Prada] were my neighbors in Nashville and that we had a plethora of personal and professional friendships that we shared.”
He continued by praising Boster’s creativity and vocal ability, while hinting that the newly released cover serves as an introduction to something much bigger.
“We are actively working on a project that I can’t speak about quite yet, but the end result was beyond my wildest dreams.”
“Emma is a powerful vocalist, writer, and consummate creative mind in the studio. So after hours of laughter, singing, and our shared love of a certain wave of emo and folk, covering Death Cab for Cutie’s ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark’ just made sense. A sort of amuse-bouche to a very special piece of art we constructed together.”
The cover showcases a softer and more intimate side of both artists while fueling speculation about the mysterious collaborative project still waiting in the wings.

Nate Bergman is great, a hell of a voice. Seen him open for Clutch a few times.
