Five Finger Death Punch are commemorating two decades of dominance with the upcoming release of BEST OF (Volume 1)—a newly re-recorded collection of some of their most iconic tracks, arriving July 18th via Better Noise Music.
While the multi-platinum hard rock titans are marking their 20th anniversary milestone, the release also serves a greater purpose. The band is reclaiming their legacy after losing control of the masters to several early recordings—sold without their knowledge or involvement.
Fans familiar with the band’s tumultuous past with former label Prospect Park may recall a drawn-out legal battle, which culminated in a countersuit back in 2017 and was eventually settled out of court. Now, guitarist Zoltan Bathory is speaking out on this latest turn of events:
“We would have loved to have a shot at reclaiming our masters, or at least to be involved in the transaction, but we found out after the fact. Surprised, but not surprised. These kinds of behind closed doors deals have become far too common in the music industry. Labels buy, sell or trade artist’s work without their knowledge or consent, reducing them to soulless commodities. But life is a chess game, so when this happened to Taylor Swift, she responded by re-recording her catalog. After that respectably bold move, her fans switched to streaming the new version out of protest and loyalty. We have one of the most hardcore and loyal fan bases on the planet, so I know our fans will do the same.”
The 17-track compilation includes 2025 versions of favorites like “Under And Over It”, “Wrong Side Of Heaven”, and their take on Bad Company’s “Bad Company”. It also features a brand new rendition of “I Refuse” with guest vocals from Maria Brink of In This Moment, and a trio of live tracks to close it out.

Yes this is exactly what everyone has been asking for… More monster energy drink fueled duche bag metal 🤣
Jason Whipe can’t understand why people have to make stupid ass comments about bands they don’t like. How about you spend your time trolling the bands you do like, or just go back to your dumpster behind Chilli’s…
Matt Mueller Good Lord that’s a lot of money do you think I should sell out so I can finally afford a dumpster of my own? 🤣

I can understand in the case of Taylor Swift/Scooter Braun that re-recording her hits would be FAR cheaper than an offer Braun would accept for her masters, but FFDP? There’s NO WAY their masters couldn’t be purchased from a failing business for a reasonable amount. Certainly a lot more than the cost of re-recording, but then you have to spend weeks/months going back over the songs and tracking them. Time you could be on the road or working on new music.
My GUESS is that FFDP are standing on principle and just refuse to pay for something they feel they already own.
ADDED: yes, it would have been nice if the band was offered to buy the masters, but music is a business, and when the money gets big, it’s ALL business.
People bitch and bitch about them! They’re a really good band! They get everything they deserve! I’ll go to toe with anyone on this
