FOO FIGHTERS Share Tongue-in-Cheek AI Video While Welcoming New Drummer Ilan Rubin

Fresh off their first shows of 2025, the Foo Fighters have released a playful AI-generated video declaring their sound as the “100% real, raw human element of rock n’ roll.” The clip also serves as an introduction to their new drummer, Ilan Rubin, who officially joined the band this summer.

Rubin, formerly of Nine Inch Nails, stepped in following the departure of Josh Freese, who was let go earlier this year. In a twist of fate, Freese has since returned to Nine Inch Nails, reclaiming the same drumming role Rubin once held.

The Foo Fighters made their live return in intimate fashion, first performing at the Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, CA on September 13th, their first show in about a year. They followed it up with a surprise September 15th set at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA.

The AI video closes with the message: “Stay tuned… There’s more to come!!!”, hinting at larger plans on the horizon.

Rubin reflected on his live debut via social media:y

“Last night with @foofighters could not have been a better time. After keeping my head down for a couple wild months and throwing myself into the material, that first show was such an incredible release of energy. I’ve been taken aback by all the positivity and support, and I just wanted to say thanks! Excited for all the volume and sweat that lies ahead.”
