Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Channels Past Trauma On New Single “Of All People”

Foo Fighters have released a lyric video for their latest single “Of All People”, offering another preview of their upcoming album ‘Your Favorite Toy’, due out April 24th via Roswell Records.

The track is rooted in a deeply personal experience for frontman Dave Grohl, who revealed that the song was inspired by a chance encounter with a former heroin dealer from his past—someone he hadn’t seen in over three decades.

Speaking to The Guardian, Grohl explained how the meeting stirred a complicated mix of emotions:

“…After bumping into a drug dealer from the 90s that was getting everyone fucked up on heroin. I hadn’t seen them in 30 years, and they’re alive, healthy and sober. I was so happy that this person survived, while at the same time, I was devastated, because of all of the people I know that we’ve lost to exactly that drug.”

Grohl went on to describe the emotional conflict that shaped the song’s lyrics:

“I was so fucking angry, but at the same time so grateful to see them alive and well. Again, a conversation within myself, feeling so conflicted and divided. When I read the lyrics back, I mentioned them to my therapist: is this survivor’s guilt?”

“Of All People” continues the rollout of ‘Your Favorite Toy’, marking the fourth single released ahead of the album’s arrival. The track leans into introspection, reflecting on grief, survival, and unresolved emotions tied to the band’s past.

With the album set to arrive later this month, Foo Fighters appear to be embracing a more vulnerable and reflective tone, shaped in part by Grohl’s recent personal experiences and ongoing self-examination.
