Allegations of workplace misconduct have surfaced following the recent reported restructuring of several music publications under Veeps and Live Nation, including BrooklynVegan, Revolver, Alternative Press, and Goldmine.
Former Veeps/Project M Group employee Christopher Enriquez has now spoken publicly about his time working with the company, alleging that he experienced harassment from members of upper management, including Joel Madden, Benji Madden, and Josh Madden.
In a statement shared online, Enriquez stated:
“Can we stop pretending these guys are cool cause they have money and bought a ton of music media outlets? I’m not staying silent anymore… I’m going IN
The Madden brothers aka Good Charlotte fired almost everyone from REVOLVER Magazine, BrooklynVegan, and Alternative Press and it’s been made public at this point so there’s no reason for me to keep quiet at this point.
I knew this was going to happen when they bought all these brands cause I can smell bullsh*t. I bought their crap at first cause I was in denial that this was happening to a company I was at for 12 years and wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I decided to leave about 1.5 years ago. Couldn’t be happier with that decision cause now I work for New Noise Magazine and the owner actually cares about underground music and their employees.
The Madden’s finally got what they wanted. They’re so cool and own a bunch of media outlets that they’re always featured in along with all the bands they manage lol. Nice work fellas! Oh and you’re non famous brother, what a great leader! lol. He has zero engagement on all his posts and blocked me on all the brands socials after I quit
More importantly, I need to mention that him and his brothers and their upper management staff abused me by talking about my mental health issues that I only shared with HR? Someone who worked there that also treated me badly eventually apologized after they were let go and disclosed that they exchanged messages and had meetings about my mental health before I left but didn’t wanna fire me so they wouldn’t have to give me a severance…. So instead they conspired to make my life hard until I quit.
Well, it worked and now I play music full time. I teach music, tour nonstop, play on countless records, manage artists and am a Marketing Director for a great media outlet. Their plan worked but backfired cause it made me more successful than I was before.
Hey, “lifestyles of the rich and famous” though… they obviously are living the dream and keeping to the authenticity of their lyrics. They certainly are living their best lives and buying every publication and firing the people defined them. Keep up the good work!
Enriquez is currently listed as the Advertising and Marketing Manager at New Noise Magazine. Prior to the reported changes involving the Project M Group portfolio, he had spent years working with the company.
The backlash surrounding the recent outlet closures has also reignited discussion surrounding past controversies involving the Madden brothers. Some fans have revisited Joel Madden’s former relationship with Hilary Duff, who was 16 when the two were publicly linked in 2004. Madden and Benji Madden later contributed to Duff’s 2005 album Most Wanted.
In the years since, Joel Madden married Nicole Richie, while Benji Madden married actress Cameron Diaz.
On Wednesday, August 5th, the same day reports regarding the media outlets emerged, Duff invited Joel Madden onstage during her concert at Madison Square Garden, where the pair performed Good Charlotte’s “The Anthem.”
