After days of speculation, Godsmack has officially confirmed that longtime drummer Shannon Larkin and guitarist Tony Rombola have retired from the band. The news follows a recent performance in Sofia, Bulgaria, where both members were absent, leading fans to wonder about their status.
In a statement issued by frontman Sully Erna and bassist Robbie Merrill, the band clarified that Larkin and Rombola made the decision to step away late last year, opting for a quieter life outside of touring. The departure, they emphasized, was on good terms.
For now, Evanescence drummer Will Hunt and Dorothy guitarist Sam Bam Koltun have stepped in to fulfill live commitments, though the band has not yet confirmed a permanent replacement for either role.
Read their full statement below:
“To our dearest friends and fans, we send this message to all of you to share some bittersweet news with you regarding a significant change in our journey together.
After almost three incredible decades, two of our most cherished members, Tony Rombola and Shannon Larkin, have decided to retire from the band permanently—on good terms—but for no other reason than to fulfill their desire to live a more simple and quiet life away from touring.
This decision was not made lightly. Tony and Shannon have been such a big part of our history, bringing their unique talents, creativity, and passion that have shaped our music and our message. Together, we have experienced countless, unforgettable moments and heartfelt interactions with fans like you around the world. We are immensely grateful for every memory we’ve created together.
Their departure marks the end of an era, but it also opens the door for new and exciting possibilities. We want to assure you that Shannon and Tony will always be part of our family, and their contributions will forever echo in our music. We respect their decisions and support them wholeheartedly as they pursue their own individual paths.
Robbie and I are also excited to explore new directions, and although we have not made any permanent decisions about who may replace Tony and Shannon, we will be continuing this journey together, and we look forward to sharing the decisions we make with all of you as they happen.
In the meantime, some of you may have heard, drummer Will Hunt of Evanescence, along with guitarist Sam Koltun of Dorothy, are filling in for Shannon and Tony as we honor and complete our current European dates.
Thank you for your unwavering support over the years. We are grateful to have you by our side as we navigate this transition. Let’s celebrate the memories we’ve made together while we all look forward to our future together.
With love and respect, Sully, Robbie, Tony, Shannon.”
While Godsmack has been vocal about not releasing new music, their touring plans remain active with the current lineup. Stay tuned for further updates.

Shannon Larkin will ‘never’ be replaced.
Sully you are a great singer and musician
It’s funny that the most engagement y’all got on a post in the past day is 13 reacts in a post about godsmack…
Stephen algorithms be crazy sometimes, thanks for checking the feed 🤘🏼
why was I invited to like this page when I can get all of this information sooner from other pages that do the same thing?
Juniper Morantes you’d think they would try to find some stories that aren’t already put on blast by metal injection, etc
Stephen Randall Washburn The algorithm’s weird—some posts take off days later. But this site’s more about helping people discover smaller bands in the directory than being the fastest to post.
The Mosh Network if that’s what it’s about, why do virtually none of the posts have anything to do with smaller bands?
Stephen this “page” isn’t the entire platform.
themosh.net
themosh.net/browse-bands
The last post (the first if you actually look) is a “small” band too but idk, can’t really control what you see and when 🤷🏻♂️

The Mosh Network what is the point of this “page” then?
The Mosh Network wait lmao… this “small band” isn’t even on your directory 😭😭 which btw the directory is atrocious and not practical at all like how is there not a way to just go to a specific letter?? You have to go page by page just to get to a certain band. Insane.
It’s set up by subgenre and location, which is more useful to a band looking to network than alphabetical…You going to look up a house in a different city by the number of the address?
You’re really putting the blind in Blind Tiger there, sir.
The Mosh Network no like you should be able to jump to A, B, C, D, etc to see bands that start with that letter lol. Also, love how you don’t acknowledge that the “small” band you mentioned isn’t even on your directory further leaving me to scratch my head at the point of all this.
The Mosh Network ok I get your point abt the ABC thing now but still that thing could be way more user friendly.
Stephen it’s on the list of things to tweak when the time and resources present themselves. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
The Mosh Network oh now I see why I didn’t get ur point at first because you had to edit your comment twice to add that part lol. Anyway, you don’t even have a place where all the subgenres are listed and if you do then it’s impossible to find. How are ppl supposed to find bands by subgenre? And going back to your original statement, how is this site/page more about discovering smaller bands in the directory when you never post anything about any of the smaller bands in the directory??
Stephen the website blew up overnight. Literally reached millions pretty much over night. Making things more user friendly is on the short list of small changes. There’s literally a subgenre page. Moving the nav bar to where it is easily seen and accessible is on the short list of edits that are being worked on.

Before raising concerns over a minor inconvenience, keep in mind—you can create your own profile, browse, and directly contact other bands for potential show swaps, all at no cost. If that’s not valuable to you, I’m not sure what is. As a promoter, having that kind of access at your fingertips is a huge asset to build a show—but hey, apparently that’s ‘atrocious.’
What’s up Blind Tiger?!

The Mosh Network that is not my band lol. That’s an alt rock band from the UK with the same name. Hopefully our conversation will help people see your post about Godsmack. Cheers.
Stephen I’m incredibly aware it’s not your band…it’s a troll.
Anywho let me know if you want help with promo 🤘🏼
Juniper Morantes what a concept
Hang it up boys. This band just lost all the talent they had
Rob Pollock Message me now or send me a friend request now
Rob Pollock sully is Godsmack. No disrespect to the other band member current and retired . I love this band and see them every year at least once. I agree it won’t be the same without Tony and Shannon but as we all know life goes on and bands move on. I will still support godsmack as they are my #1 band .
I love these guys just wish they would have announced it before the tour that this would be their last tour together to give everyone one more chance to see them all together. I give them the most respect and love. Thanks for the memories and rock on
You guys are the greatest.
