GWAR are bringing their particular brand of carnage to the football field, with the metal legends set to invade ‘Mutant Football League 2’ through a new DLC expansion dubbed ‘Antarctica Scumdogs.’
Developed by Digital Dreams Entertainment, the upcoming expansion will introduce GWAR as a playable team in the brutally violent football game, which originally launched in 2024 as a spiritual successor to the classic 1993 Sega Genesis title ‘Mutant League Football.’
The ‘Antarctica Scumdogs’ DLC is scheduled to arrive in October 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, bringing the Scumdogs into a world where football already involves mutilated players, murderous referees and plenty of opportunities for cheating.
According to Digital Dreams Entertainment president Michael Mendheim, the crossover has been something fans have been requesting for years.
“MFL fans have been asking me for years, ‘When are you going to get GWAR into the game?’ Well, the wait is finally over. Football just got louder, bloodier, and a whole lot more GWAR. The Antarctica Scumdogs are coming to MFL2, and we’re making damn sure they’re the deadliest team in the game.”
The DLC will feature a six-member GWAR roster consisting of BälSäc the Jaws ‘O Death, JiZMak Da Gusha, Grodius Maximus, Beefcake the Mighty, Sawborg Destructo and Bonesnapper.
The band’s frontman Blöthar the Berserker naturally had his own suitably violent take on the collaboration:
“Today, the Antarctica Scumdogs of GWAR take to the frozen tundra of the Mutant Football League, where killing isn’t everything, it’s the ONLY thing! Let the games begin!!”
In addition to the playable team, ‘Antarctica Scumdogs’ will introduce a new stadium inspired by GWAR’s mythology, giving players a suitably bizarre setting in which to put the Scumdogs through their paces.
The crossover will also mark GWAR’s first video game appearance in more than 30 years, according to the announcement, while also offering players the first opportunity to actually play as the band.
Before its full October release, ‘GWAR: Antarctica Scumdogs’ will receive its worldwide playable debut at PAX West in Seattle, running September 4-7. Attendees will be able to try out the DLC at the Digital Dreams Entertainment booth in the Arch Building, Level 4, Booth #853.
Digital Dreams Entertainment will also hold a daily raffle during PAX West, with attendees receiving the opportunity to have themselves immortalized as a playable member of the Antarctica Scumdogs team.
For everyone else, ‘Mutant Football League 2: Antarctica Scumdogs’ is set to arrive in October 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
