During this past weekend’s Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, CA, Matt Byrne, drummer for Connecticut hardcore/metal mainstays Hatebreed, offered an update on the band’s upcoming studio album. Speaking with Baby Huey of 107.7 The Bone, Byrne revealed that the record is “about 85 to 90 percent done.”
“We just released a single, ‘Make The Demons Obey,’ over the summer,” Byrne said. “We have a new record that’ll be coming out next year — not sure when, but it’s about 90 percent, 85 percent done. We’re still tweaking some stuff, but next year’s our target. It’s very fast. It’s heavy. It’s Hatebreed. It has Hatebreed all over it.”

Released this past July, “Make The Demons Obey” marked the band’s first new material since 2020’s ‘Weight Of The False Self.’ The track delivers exactly what fans expect from Hatebreed — aggressive energy, positive mental attitude lyrics, and crushing breakdowns.
At the time of the single’s release, frontman Jamey Jasta said:
“We’ve managed to push the envelope and surpass our expectations. We’ve become tighter, harder, and more vicious than ever. This is the most excited I’ve been for any Hatebreed release.”
Byrne added:
“This is the fastest, most vicious, and most aggressive music we have ever created, and I’m pumped for the world to hear it.”
Currently operating independently, Hatebreed are self-funding the album while weighing label options. Byrne confirmed the band intends to release additional singles in the meantime to keep fans engaged.
The band recently welcomed guitarist Wayne Lozinak back to the stage following his recovery from surgery to remove a benign brain tumor. While Lozinak was sidelined, Hatebreed continued touring with Matt Bachand filling in on guitar and Carl Schwartz (First Blood, Terror) handling bass duties.
Earlier this year, Hatebreed also revived the ‘Summer Slaughter’ tour for the first time in years, with Fugitive, Gridiron, Incite, Escuela Grind, and Snuffed On Sight appearing on select dates. The group had previously marked their 30th anniversary with a North American run alongside Carcass, Harm’s Way, and Crypta.
To date, Hatebreed have released eight studio albums, sold over 1.5 million records in North America, and appeared on some of the biggest festivals in heavy music, including Ozzfest, Warped Tour, Download, and Graspop Metal Meeting.
