HATEBREED Guitarist WAYNE LOZINAK Diagnosed with Brain Tumor

HATEBREED have issued a heartfelt update regarding longtime guitarist WAYNE LOZINAK, who was recently diagnosed with a benign brain tumor while on tour in Europe. The metalcore veteran began experiencing concerning symptoms during the band’s appearance at this past weekend’s Download Festival and sought medical attention shortly after.

The band’s full statement, shared today (June 17th), reveals that after a series of tests, Lozinak was diagnosed with a benign meningioma, a slow-growing brain tumor that doctors believe may have been present for years. While the diagnosis was the best-case scenario under the circumstances, Lozinak will be returning to the U.S. to undergo surgery and focus on recovery.

In the meantime, MATT BACHAND (SHADOWS FALL), who has been handling live bass duties, will be switching to guitar to cover Lozinak’s role. Stepping in on bass will be CARL SCHWARTZ (FIRST BLOOD), ensuring that HATEBREED’s tour plans remain intact as their bandmate takes time to heal.

The band’s official statement reads:

On the night of June 14th, while at Download Festival, Wayne began experiencing mild symptoms that raised concerns of a possible stroke. Out of an abundance of caution, he sought medical attention the following day upon arriving in Lille, France. After undergoing a CT scan at the ER, doctors discovered a brain tumor, leading to his immediate admission for further testing.

Following a thorough 24-hour evaluation, including an MRI, it was determined that the tumor is a benign meningioma—a slow-growing mass that has likely been present for years. We are immensely relieved that Wayne’s diagnosis is the best possible outcome given the circumstances.

Wayne will be returning to the U.S. to prepare for surgery and focus on rest and recovery. His strength and resilience remain unwavering, and he is determined to return to HATEBREED as soon as he is able. We appreciate all the love and support from fans, friends, and the music community during this time.
