Boston hardcore punk outfit Haywire had a brief run-in with the NYPD after attempting to film a guerilla-style music video in New York City’s Times Square on October 28.
The band issued a last-minute announcement on social media, sharing the coordinates and a photograph of the location where they planned to set up. Their message included a specific arrival time for fans looking to catch the impromptu shoot.
“40.75919° N, 73.98509° W, next to the steps. Right here don’t crowd the spot until 8:55pm.”
Haywire managed to get their equipment set up and perform approximately a song and a half before police officers arrived and brought the shoot to an abrupt end.
Footage circulating online shows officers approaching the band, taking away their microphone and drumsticks, and apparently knocking over amplifiers during the shutdown. According to Alternative Press, police also confiscated the band’s equipment after stopping the performance.
Comedian Ian Fiddance was among those spotted watching the impromptu set before it was interrupted.
It remains unclear whether Haywire will face any additional legal consequences stemming from the unauthorized performance or if their equipment will be returned.
