Hollywood Undead’s Johnny 3 Tears Says Albums Have “Almost No Incentive” Anymore

Hollywood Undead seem to be stepping away from full-length albums—at least for now. The California rap-rock outfit made their mark with long-form releases early in their career, earning platinum certification for their 2008 debut Swan Songs and a gold plaque for 2011’s American Tragedy. While none of their six subsequent albums have hit those same milestones, the band still racked up an impressive 11 platinum and gold singles in 2022.

Now signed to Sumerian Records, many fans expected the group to drop their ninth studio album this year. However, in a recent interview with snsmix.com, vocalist/bassist Johnny 3 Tears revealed that the band is shifting focus toward standalone singles instead.

“We’ve got new songs coming out real shortly, within the next couple of months. As far as a new record-record? I don’t know. I don’t think we’re even planning on it. I think those days are numbered, as far as putting out like, ‘Hey, here’s an album with fifteen songs on it.’ I mean, at some point that will happen, but as of now, we’re just releasing songs.”

He elaborated on the changing landscape of album releases, adding:

“You know, dude—cars don’t even have CD players in them anymore. What are we going to release a record for? No one buys them, except for people who like vinyl. Now it’s funny, because outside of the artwork, there’s almost no incentive to make an album anymore. So we’ll see what happens. But as of now, we’re just gonna release songs and videos—all the other stuff—and eventually maybe package it into a record for people who want physical or tangible product. But yeah, as far as releasing an actual album? I have no idea. I don’t even know if anybody’s going to do that anymore.”
