Veteran death metal band Incantation have transformed a difficult touring situation into a charitable effort, launching a food drive at the remaining stops of their current U.S. run.
Earlier this week, vocalist/guitarist John McEntee shared a candid video explaining that hospitality on the band’s tour as direct support to Belphegor had been insufficient, prompting him to jokingly — yet earnestly — ask fans to bring non-perishable food and bottled water to the merch table to help sustain the band on the road.
McEntee noted that buyouts were barely covering daily meals and described the tour as operating on a “shoestring budget.” However, the situation was quickly resolved. In a follow-up video posted February 25, he clarified that the issue stemmed from miscommunication and thanked the band’s management, booking agent, and promoters for helping sort it out.
Rather than scrap the idea entirely, Incantation opted to pivot.
Speaking with Decibel, McEntee explained that the band will now collect non-perishable food items at the remaining tour dates and donate them to local food banks in each city.
“As a musician, I have had times when things have been tight… I know how difficult it is to sometimes choose between medical bills and paying for food or housing… There are others less fortunate who don’t even have the chance to afford food or shelter. So, I decided to have a food drive at the remaining shows on this tour and donate to the local food banks in the venues’ communities.”
He added:
“If you can give, let’s do our part to help out our local communities… The more I thought about it, the more I realized there are people in much more dire situations. We will get through our own stuff, but we need to help others. We need to give back.”
The band are also asking locals in each city to assist with coordinating drop-offs to nearby food banks after the shows.
