Those attending the upcoming ‘Back To The Beginning‘ celebration of Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne will witness a special performance from reunited thrash metal legends Slayer, who will be delivering a cover of a Black Sabbath classic.
Slayer previously paid tribute to the heavy metal pioneers with their rendition of “Hand Of Doom” on the 2000 compilation Nativity In Black II, though it’s yet to be revealed which song they will perform this time. The event will take place on July 5th at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK, serving as a send-off for Black Sabbath and the Prince of Darkness himself.
Speaking with Spin, Slayer guitarist Kerry King revealed that the band has already begun rehearsing for the performance and reflected on the significance of the event:
“I probably would have done that if that was the only show that I did. That’s an important day. I think that’s going to be a huge moment for the fans, but it’s going to be a huge moment for me. It’s a huge moment in rock history.”
King also discussed his plans to maintain a relentless pace with his solo project as he moves forward in his career:
“This time I’m super-focused. I’m not a kid and I can’t have five-year gaps between records. We talk about it all the time. As soon as cycle one is over, get into the studio—take your tour momentum, take your tour chops, and go in and bust out the next one.”
‘Back To The Beginning‘ is set to be a historic event, with Slayer joining a stacked lineup to honor Black Sabbath’s legendary career and legacy.
