Australian metalcore outfit Make Them Suffer were forced to cut their November 23rd performance in Cincinnati, OH short after vocalist/keyboardist Alex Reade abruptly exited the stage mid-set due to a rapidly worsening illness that has been moving through the band. The group are currently on the road across North America with Fit For A King, Spite, and 156/Silence.
According to the band, Reade began blacking out during the set and was unable to continue, prompting the rare decision to end the show early — something they say hasn’t happened in more than a decade of touring.
In a statement shared after the performance, Make Them Suffer wrote:
“Cincinnati, thank you for looking out for us. Last night we had to stop our set early after Alex began blacking out. We’ve never had to stop a set or cancel a show in 10+ years of touring. It put us in a situation we weren’t prepared for and it wasn’t a decision we took lightly. Health always comes first. We had fun while it lasted and it was good to be back — we appreciate you more than you know.”
Reade later issued her own message to fans, describing the situation as the sickest she has ever been onstage in nearly two decades of performing:
**“Hey Cincinnati! Last night I was so sick on stage I had to leave the set/stage early which I have never had to do in my life and in almost 20 years of performing.
I started to black out/pass out on stage, and as the set progressed, I was physically unable to stand and continue to perform before imminent collapse, my body was shaking.
Cincinnati, I love playing your city. You always bring incredible energy. I’m sorry to let you down last night. We will make it up to you when we return again.”**
