Metallica once again paid tribute to local music legends during their July 5 performance in London, England, with Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo delivering impromptu covers of Black Sabbath’s “Electric Funeral” and the Sex Pistols’ “Holidays In The Sun.”
The performance carried added significance, as the show took place on the first anniversary of Back To The Beginning—the historic farewell concert for Black Sabbath and the band’s legendary late frontman, Ozzy Osbourne.
As part of their now-traditional “doodle” segment, Hammett and Trujillo performed portions of the two classic tracks in celebration of England’s rich musical legacy. Their tribute to Black Sabbath served as a fitting nod to the landmark event that brought together some of heavy music’s biggest names to celebrate the pioneers of metal.
Metallica were among the standout performers at Back To The Beginning, where they honored Black Sabbath by performing “Hole In The Sky.” The event would ultimately become Ozzy Osbourne’s final live performance before his passing later that year, making this latest tribute especially poignant for longtime fans.
