The final live performance of Ozzy Osbourne and the original Black Sabbath lineup is coming to the big screen.
The concert film ‘OZZY & BLACK SABBATH: BACK TO THE BEGINNING’ will receive a worldwide theatrical release beginning October 28, giving fans the opportunity to relive the all-star farewell event that took place at Villa Park in Birmingham, U.K. on July 5, 2025.
The historic concert brought Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward together for the first Black Sabbath performance featuring the original lineup in more than two decades. Ozzy also delivered a solo set during the sold-out event.
The performance would ultimately become Osbourne’s final live appearance. The legendary vocalist passed away on July 22, 2025, just 17 days after the Birmingham concert.
The event featured performances from a massive collection of rock and metal acts, including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Pantera, Slayer, Tool, Alice In Chains, Anthrax, Gojira, Halestorm, Lamb Of God, Mastodon, Rival Sons, and more.
The show also featured a number of all-star collaborations involving musicians such as Billy Corgan, Chad Smith, David Draiman, Jake E. Lee, KK Downing, Nuno Bettencourt, Ronnie Wood, Sammy Hagar, Steven Tyler, Travis Barker, Vernon Reid, Yungblud, and others.
Hosted by Jason Momoa, the event was overseen musically by Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine, who served as the concert’s Musical Director.
Looking back on the significance of the event, Tony Iommi described it as a fitting conclusion for the band.
“It was a closure for the band and it was a good way to go out, I think.”
Geezer Butler recalled the overwhelming response from the crowd:
“To me it was like pure love. It was just a wave of love. It’s the only way I can describe it really. I mean I could feel it as if it is like tangible.”
Meanwhile, Bill Ward said:
“Felt completely at home in a place where I belong. It almost felt like I was in a dream.”
For Sharon Osbourne, who helped oversee the event, the entire concert came from Ozzy’s desire to perform one final time for his fans.
“Back to the Beginning came about because I asked Ozzy what would really make him happy. And he said the only thing that would make him happy was if he could perform again and say goodbye to his fans. That’s all he wanted to do. He wanted to say goodbye and thank you.”
Morello also reflected on the unprecedented nature of the concert, saying:
“There’s never been anything like that that’s happened in the history of rock and roll. There’s never been a precedent for a show like this… Black Sabbath gets to play their final show basically in the Ground Zero of where they created heavy metal.”
The film has been adapted for the big screen by director Ben Wainwright-Pearce, while the original concert was directed by Tim van Someren. Jim Parsons, Jamie Silk, and Dan Seliger served as producers.
‘OZZY & BLACK SABBATH: BACK TO THE BEGINNING’ has been specifically crafted for theatrical presentation and will feature Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound.
Tickets will go on sale September 24 at 10:00 a.m. ET / 7:00 a.m. PT, with additional international on-sale times scheduled for 3:00 p.m. BST and 4:00 p.m. CEST.
