SANGUISUGABOGG Accuse Memphis Venue GM of Threatening to Shoot Band After Show

Ohio death metal outfit Sanguisugabogg have spoken out following a disturbing incident that occurred after their July 29th performance at 1884 Lounge in Memphis, TN.

According to the band, the venue’s general manager Cory Likens became aggressive after accusing them of breaching their contract by not playing their full time slot. The situation reportedly escalated when Likens allegedly shoved their tour manager and later threatened to shoot the band during a post-show settlement discussion.

The band shared their side of the events via social media (full post below), warning others in the music industry:

“BANDS, BOOKING AGENTS, MANAGERS DO NOT WORK FOR THIS CLOWN.”

“Right after we got done playing we were told to come to his office to settle… our TM was told that we breached our contract because our set ended earlier than what we were slotted (not a thing) and [Likens] shoved him out of his office.”

While the specifics of the contract for this particular show are unknown, it’s worth noting that most headlining agreements typically include a minimum set length—but enforcement is generally flexible. It’s not uncommon for bands to play 50 minutes instead of 60, or stretch a set slightly longer, without issue. These timeframes are usually seen as guidelines rather than strict mandates.

When the rest of the bands returned to the office, they say Likens told them to leave or he would shoot them. He reportedly left the venue shortly after, and a more professional staff member issued payment to the artists.

The band added:

“They’re telling us to take the post down and saying he didn’t say he was gonna shoot us—that he told us ‘I have a gun…’ That’s not true. He told five of us he was going to shoot us.”

Sanguisugabogg also expressed gratitude toward the crowd and staff who were not involved in the altercation, while continuing to call for accountability from the venue’s management.

The incident has prompted a wave of online backlash against Minglewood Hall / 1884 Lounge, with fans and industry professionals echoing concerns about the venue’s handling of artists in the past.

Sanguisugabogg will release their third album, Hideous Aftermath, on October 10th via Century Media. The band is also set to hit the road this fall with Despised Icon, Defeated Sanity, and Corpse Pile in support.
