Satanic Planet have announced their next studio album, ‘Dead Deities’, while also unleashing a video for the politically charged new single “Sam Alito’s Mom.”
The album is slated to arrive October 30th through Relapse Records and finds the supergroup continuing their ongoing confrontation with Christian nationalism, theocracy and other subjects through an explicitly Satanic lens.
The band’s lineup brings together Lucien Greaves of The Satanic Temple, Dave Lombardo (Mr. Bungle, ex-Slayer, etc.), Justin Pearson (The Locust, Deaf Club, etc.) and Luke Henshaw (Planet B, etc.).
The title of “Sam Alito’s Mom” takes aim at U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, whose role in the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has made him a central figure in the ongoing U.S. abortion rights debate. Greaves explained the inspiration behind the track:
“In an effort to preserve reproductive rights in the face of theocratic opposition, The Satanic Temple has opened three abortion clinics and is currently working toward opening a fourth. We named the first of our clinics ‘Sam Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic,’ and following the opening of the fourth clinic, we are going to sue to establish our religious freedom to ship abortion pharmaceuticals to any state in the U.S. regardless of their restrictions on bodily autonomy. This is our fight, and this is our song about that fight.”
