Anthrax guitarist and lyricist Scott Ian has shared his thoughts on the current political climate in the United States, tying his perspective directly to the band’s recently released single It’s For The Kids.
In a conversation with Allison Hagendorf, Ian reflected on the emotional weight behind the lyrics, explaining how personal experiences and concerns about the world his child is growing up in influenced the track.
He described anger as something rooted in fear, noting how becoming a parent shifted his worldview and heightened his concerns about global safety and accountability.
“I was definitely… That’s how I deal with anger. As I’ve learned over the years, anger is fear-based, and certainly having a son has changed my… If it doesn’t change your outlook, there’s something wrong with you, if it doesn’t change the way you feel about things. And, yeah, in some ways, there’s more fear in my life because you have a child, and this world we live in has proven to be not a safe place for children anywhere — not just here in the United States.”
Ian continued by expressing frustration with leadership and global conditions, saying the song became a direct outlet for those emotions.
“And I have a lot of fear about that, which then, of course, turns into anger about that because nobody does anything. Nobody does anything. Speaking specifically from my point of view as a tax-paying citizen of the United States, I can safely say that the administration in power does nothing to protect the children of this country and does harm to children of other countries all over the world. And if you disagree with that, you’re wrong. It’s not opinion, it’s fact.”
He added that songwriting has long served as a form of release and emotional processing throughout his career, dating back to Anthrax’s earliest recordings in the mid-1980s.
The single It’s For The Kids appears on Anthrax’s upcoming album Cursum Perfico, which is scheduled for release on September 18.

Have you noticed the amount of quietness you get on your reactions since you guys constantly post political b.s?
No one cares about Scott’s political preferences nor Randy’s
From lamb of god, we do not care.
It’s called freedom, and you have to vote for you who think is going to do the right job.Neither candidate is ever going to be perfect.
The craziest part about all this is that you didn’t complain. When the other administration was in office and gas prices were high violence. All kinds of crap stick to the music guys.
If you do that, you’ll actually start getting more traction on your page again.
And with all due respect, I respect your political beliefs, whether you’re a democrat or republican or libertarian.
