Sepultura’s Farewell Show Will Proceed Without Max & Iggor Cavalera Following Declined Reunion Talks

As Sepultura prepare to bring their decades-spanning career to a close, longtime hopes for a full classic-era reunion appear to be officially off the table. Guitarist Andreas Kisser has confirmed that former members Max Cavalera and Iggor Cavalera have declined invitations to participate in the band’s upcoming farewell performance.

The Brazilian metal pioneers have spent the last several years on an extended goodbye tour, with plans underway for a final concert later this year. While details for that concluding show are still being finalized, Kisser revealed in a recent interview with Metal Hammer that attempts to reunite the classic lineup ultimately did not come together.

Both Cavalera brothers were integral to Sepultura’s formative era. Max exited the band in 1996 following internal disputes surrounding management decisions involving his wife, Gloria Cavalera, while Iggor remained until his departure in 2006. In the years since, the siblings have reunited musically under the Cavalera banner, revisiting and re-recording early material from the band’s catalog.

Back in 2024, Kisser publicly extended an olive branch, emphasizing reconciliation over revisiting past disagreements and expressing hope for a celebratory final performance for fans. Despite renewed communication — including a personal phone conversation between Kisser and Iggor and outreach through management channels to Max — both brothers chose not to participate.

“We did invite the Cavalera brothers… But they don’t want to be a part of it, and that’s OK. It’s a choice,” Kisser explained.

He added that having everyone together one last time would have made sense as a symbolic closing chapter, referencing the collaborative spirit surrounding the band’s landmark album Roots.

Final Album Arriving Soon

Sepultura will release their final studio album, The Cloud Of Unknowing, on April 24th, marking the last recorded chapter of a career spanning more than four decades.
