SpiritWorld, Las Vegas-based crossover heavyweights, have officially announced their third studio album, Helldorado, set to drop on March 21st via Century Media. Known for blending Western-inspired themes with aggressive metal, the band has given fans a taste of what’s to come with the release of a music video for the single “Abilene Grime.” The video, written and directed by Todd Hailstone, dives deep into the band’s Western roots, delivering a dark and heavy twist on classic storytelling tropes, and is available below.
Frontman and founder Stu Folsom shared his thoughts on the track, saying:
“‘Abilene Grime’ is a journey into the darker corners of the SpiritWorld mythos. We wanted to channel the energy of classic Western stories but give it a heavy, unrelenting twist. Working with Todd Hailstone to create a visual that matches the intensity of the music was an incredible experience—his storytelling ability brought a new dimension to the track.”
As for the new album as a whole, this record moves beyond Folsom‘s “Godlessness” book, which the group’s first two albums served as companion pieces to. Instead, Helldorado draws inspiration from a new tome Folsom has in the works. Going into detail on what to expect, he stated:
“This record, more so than the last two, I think you hear way more fearlessness and confidence in the choices. Things that were showing up as interludes have manifested into fully fleshed out pieces. At its heart, Helldorado is a punishing, unrelenting masterclass in crossover and hardcore thrash. But in a scene where every riff has been played before and every great band has thirty contemporary acolytes mining their catalog and doing worship albums, there is something in the strangeness of Helldorado that makes it endearing.”
Going into detail about what fans can expect, Folsom stated:
“‘Godlessness‘ leaves off in a cliffhanger where all the surviving characters have managed to arrive at a villa in Mexico near where a rumored gateway to hell is said to exist. ‘Helldorado‘ is the first glimpse that fans will get into some of what is unfolding in the next novel that I am working on, that tells the story of what happens with these characters and the gates of hell.”
There are several guests featured on the album including Sgah’gahsowáh of Blackbraid & Zach Blair of Rise Against on “Oblivion” and Frederic Leclercq of Kreator on “Stigmata Scars“.
