What started as a curious merch table mix-up at the System Of A Down and Deftones shows in Toronto has already turned into a collector’s frenzy.
At the merch stands for the bands’ two-night run at Rogers Stadium earlier this week, fans spotted limited shirts featuring mismatched designs—System Of A Down’s logo printed over a photo of Deftones, and vice versa. Priced at $70 CAD, the items quickly sold out and won’t be reissued.
System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan weighed in on the situation via social media on September 5th, writing:
“Many will want these, few will get them! Only available at the Toronto shows, in fact they may already all be gone…”
The shirts have since sparked debate within the fan community, with some speculating they were a tongue-in-cheek response to bootleg misprints spotted earlier in the tour. Regardless of their origin, the exclusivity has already driven resale prices as high as $125 USD on eBay, while opportunistic bootleggers are attempting to cash in with their own knockoffs.
The Toronto stops marked the final shows of System Of A Down’s brief summer stadium run alongside Deftones, leaving these misprinted shirts as a quirky and sought-after souvenir from the trek.
