TAKING BACK SUNDAY Reuniting with Fred Mascherino for Summer Tour as John Nolan Steps Away

Taking Back Sunday will welcome back former guitarist and vocalist Fred Mascherino for their upcoming summer tour, which kicks off in just over two weeks. The reunion comes as John Nolan steps away from the road to focus on his health and family.

Mascherino, who last performed with Taking Back Sunday in 2007, was a core part of the band’s lineup during the Where You Want To Be (2004) and Louder Now (2006) album cycles. Following his original departure, he went on to front The Color Fred, tour with Terrible Things, and briefly join Say Anything.

In a statement, Nolan explained his decision to step back:

“The band has always prioritized family, but finding the right balance between being at home and being on tour is always difficult. Coming into this summer I realized I needed to dedicate time to the well-being of my family. Adam and Shaun understood, and we worked together to find a way for the tour to move forward without me. My first thought was to reach out to Fred and luckily that made sense to everyone, and he was happy to participate.”

Mascherino also shared his thoughts on returning to the stage with the band:

“Playing with Taking Back Sunday again was something I’d been wanting for a while, but it feels surreal now that it’s happening. For me, it’s a story about healing. We were young back then and I needed to learn things about myself. I reconnected with Adam a little while ago and was just trying to rebuild the friendship. That makes this bigger for me than just being on the stage. That said, I’ve always been grateful these songs have endured, and I’m excited to play and sing them with everyone this summer.”
