Terror “Bootlegs the Bootleg” to Combat Merch Thieves

In a move that perfectly mirrors the aggressive DIY ethics of the hardcore scene, Los Angeles stalwarts Terror have launched a unique counter-offensive against merch bootleggers. After discovering a third-party seller was profiting off their trademarks, the band decided to reclaim the design by releasing an official version of the “stolen” art themselves.

The controversy began when Broken Uniform Syndicate began selling a design featuring the band’s logo alongside an image of legendary NY rapper Nas. In a move that the band calls “bootlegging the bootleg,” the official version has now been made available for a limited time.

The band took to social media on December 27 to alert fans that the designs floating around online were not authorized. Rather than just issuing a standard cease-and-desist, the band chose to undercut the bootleggers by providing the high-quality, official alternative to their audience.

“Combat the bootleggers by bootlegging the bootleg! It can suck to be a hardworking band & have this happen, but that’s life and we try to make the best of it.”

The design itself is a callback to a limited run the band produced years ago. Somewhat ironically, by reclaiming the shirt, the band is technically “bootlegging” Nas for a second time in this single incident—a fact not lost on the hardcore community.

Fans Urged to Seek Refunds

While the bootlegger’s Instagram account has since gone private, their online store reportedly remains active with designs featuring other heavy hitters like Slayer and Godflesh. Terror has issued a clear directive to any fans who may have accidentally supported the unofficial shop.

“If you happened to grab one from @brokenuniformsyndicate we encourage you to get a refund.”

The official “bootleg” is currently available through the band’s Stick Tight webstore in both t-shirt and hoodie formats. For a band that has spent over two decades preaching “Keepers of the Faith,” this move serves as a blunt reminder that they intend to protect their brand and their fans from outside exploitation.
