Thirty Seconds To Mars have become one of the latest artists to experiment with biometric verification technology for concert ticketing, partnering with Tools For Humanity and its Orb eye-scanning system for select upcoming tour dates.
The technology utilizes a spherical device known as the Orb, which scans the eyes of consenting participants in order to create a digital “World ID” tied to their biometric data. That verification system was developed by Tools For Humanity, the startup co-founded by Sam Altman.
Originally designed as a way to help verify human users online and reduce abuse from bots, hackers and fraudulent accounts, the technology has now begun making its way into live entertainment ticketing through a partnership with Concert Kit.
As part of the initiative, Thirty Seconds To Mars are offering a limited number of 2-for-1 tickets to fans willing to scan their eyes and create a World ID. The promotion applies to select dates on the band’s upcoming 2027 UK and European tour, including stops in London, Manchester, Berlin, Munich and Hanover.
Frontman Jared Leto said of the program:
“Live music is about connection, energy, and shared experience. Fans wait years for these moments, and too often bots get there first. We wanted to work with World to create something that helps protect the fan experience and gives real people a fair shot at being part of it.”
More information regarding the technology and ticketing initiative can be found through World.org.
The potential use of Orb technology in live entertainment has also drawn attention from other musicians. Last year, Kid Rock publicly argued that biometric verification systems could help eliminate scalpers and automated bot purchases from ticketing platforms, while criticizing the current resale ecosystem.
The tour itself will see Thirty Seconds To Mars celebrating both ‘A Beautiful Lie’ and ‘This Is War’ across Europe and the UK next spring.
