Tool guitarist Adam Jones says the band remains interested in staging a long-rumored residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, revealing that discussions with the venue have been ongoing since it first opened in 2023.
Speaking in a new interview with 99.7 The Blitz, Jones revisited the band’s early connection to the venue and confirmed that Tool were initially considered to help launch the Sphere.
“We were supposed to open that place. We were asked, and because of ‘Game Of Thrones’ band politics, we just couldn’t make it work.”
Jones added that scheduling conflicts ultimately pushed the opportunity elsewhere:
“And then they ended up using U2, which I think we probably would’ve gotten bumped anyway.”
Despite that missed chance, Jones made it clear that the door remains open for a future collaboration, with ongoing discussions still taking place between the band and Sphere organizers.
“They have been really enthusiastic about us playing there, so we’ve been talking to them since it opened about doing some kind of residency there.”
However, he acknowledged that logistical challenges continue to delay any concrete plans:
“There’s just a lot of production details and budgeting and money and timing. So it’s complicated. But I think we will do it at some point.”
The Sphere, known for its massive wraparound LED display and immersive 4D capabilities, has quickly become one of the most ambitious live performance venues in the world. While initially dominated by pop and rock acts, the upcoming Metallica residency has signaled a growing appetite for heavier genres at the venue.
Given Tool’s long-standing emphasis on visual artistry and atmospheric live production, the band has frequently been viewed as a natural fit for the space — though the scale and cost of adapting their show remains a major factor in negotiations.
Still, Jones’ comments suggest that a Tool Sphere residency remains a real possibility for the future, even if fans may need to wait a little longer for it to materialize.
