Canadian sci-fi metal pioneers Voivod have released a new live orchestral rendition of their track “The End Of Dormancy,” offering fans a cinematic glimpse into their recent symphonic collaboration.
The performance is taken from the band’s upcoming live release, ‘Symphonique’, which captures their June 4, 2025 concert at the Grand Théâtre in Québec City, where Voivod performed alongside the Quebec Symphony Orchestra.
The full 12-song performance is scheduled for official release on June 5 via Century Media Records.
Speaking about the orchestral version of “The End Of Dormancy,” guitarist Daniel “Chewy” Mongrain reflected on the dramatic scope of the arrangement and how it evolved from its original conception.
“This one is very special to me. I wrote the riffs imagining Roman naval battles with a full orchestra, like the movies from the 50’s and 60’s. It has a very dramatic vibe.”
He went on to describe how the live orchestral setting brought the composition closer to its original vision.
“Little did I know that what we synthesized for a four-piece band would eventually explode into its primary, original imagined form.”
Mongrain added that the performance stood out as one of the most memorable moments of the night.
“I remember vividly the crowd’s reaction after the grand finale, it was one of these rare life’s perfect moments.”
Beyond the release of ‘Symphonique’, Voivod are continuing to expand their orchestral ambitions with additional symphonic performances scheduled in 2026, including a January 20 show at Théâtre du Palais Municipal in Chicoutimi alongside the Orchestre Symphonique du Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.
