Wolves At The Gate Release “PARASITE” Short Film, New Album “Wasteland” Set For May Release

Wolves At The Gate have officially announced Wasteland as their sixth studio album, set to arrive on May 30th via Solid State Records. Alongside the reveal, the Christian metalcore band has debuted a cinematic short film/music video for the album’s lead single, “PARASITE.”

Vocalist/guitarist Steve Cobucci reflected on the meaning behind the song, stating:

“Throughout the album, we explore different concepts within a broader narrative. With ‘Parasite,’ we wanted to illustrate the relationship between a parasite and its host—a fitting metaphor for how we interact with our own weaknesses, tendencies, and sin.

There’s an ongoing struggle: we despise the destructive cycles we keep falling into, yet we continue down those paths because something within them tempts us. Sin is insanity—the very thing we crave is also what seeks to destroy us. It’s a bottomless pit, always promising but never fulfilling.

The chorus reflects this conflict with the line, ‘And I died a million deaths to live.’ It speaks to my own experience—repeatedly choosing things I knew would lead to destruction, convinced they would bring life. No matter how many times I realized their emptiness, I kept chasing after them. This song serves as both a lament and a reminder that sin is a deceptive promise, much like a parasite that drains its host until nothing remains.”

Cobucci co-produced the album alongside Spiritbox‘s Josh Gilbert, offering further insight into its overarching concept:

“As I worked on the album, particularly the lyrics, I realized that Wasteland symbolizes a mindset I don’t want to live in, yet I find myself returning to it over and over. I hate it—it’s a world of empty promises, a mirage, a counterfeit.”
