    YUNGBLUD Welcomes The Smashing Pumpkins On A New Version Of “Zombie”

    Multi-platinum alternative artist YUNGBLUD has added another high-profile collaborative performance to an already dense resume. Having previously worked with the likes of Halsey, Travis Barker, and members of Bring Me The Horizon, his latest pairing sees him inviting alt-rock royalty The Smashing Pumpkins to guest on a reimagined version of his single “Zombie”.

    The news comes as YUNGBLUD enters the 2026 GRAMMY Awards season with significant momentum. The original version of “Zombie” is currently in contention for Best Rock Song, marking one of three nominations for the artist. His latest full-length effort, ‘Idols’ (2025), is nominated for Best Rock Album, while his ‘Back To The Beginning’ rendition of the Black Sabbath classic “Changes” is up for Best Rock Performance.

    A “Siamese Dream” Influence

    Speaking with Loudwire, YUNGBLUD noted that the collaboration brings his creative process full circle, citing the The Smashing Pumpkins’ 4x multi-platinum sophomore effort ‘Siamese Dream’ as a primary blueprint for the track’s original inception.

    “When I was making ‘Zombie,’ I was really channeling ‘Siamese Dream’. It was really the sadness and the melancholic emotion mixed with the aggression of Billy‘s fucking guitars… Billy, as a songwriter, was really at the forefront of my inspiration when I was making this album.”

    The updated version of the track is intended to provide a stark contrast to the original, leaning into a “Jekyll and Hyde” dynamic that highlights a more aggressive, pessimistic side of the composition.

    “I called Billy and I was like, ‘Billy, please help me scratch this itch. I want this record to dig in harder.’”

    The “Changes” Connection

    YUNGBLUD‘s recent “Changes” cover further solidified his ties to the heavy music world. Acting as a protégé of the Osbourne family, that performance featured a powerhouse backing band including members of:

    • Anthrax
    • Extreme
    • Sleep Token

    The official music video for the new version of “Zombie” featuring The Smashing Pumpkins is set to debut today, January 2, at 10:00 AM PST / 1:00 PM EST.

      When Corgan ditched the Paisley Print shirts in 94 it was never the same again. While Gish- Pisces were go tier albums MCIS was the biggest most overrated piece of shit album of the 90’s. The look,the complete lack of Psychedelic incidences,and the birth of the Nasally voice.

        Laughon Nick I get that but, the middle six of “beautiful” is the most psychedelic thing the band have done SINCE gish (not including some bits of oceania). I feel like the nasal was always there, if not harsher in the past. The verses for “I am one” are a good example and bits of starla.

          Dave Dave I agree. The ‘nasal’ was always there but was lost in the endless vocal/guitar overdubs of Siamese Dream. He struggled immensely singing those songs live back then due to the hundreds of vocal overdubs so he just screamed/butchered it in places where he couldn’t possibly get it right. The MCIS world tour was my first concert and man it was a sight to behold for a 10/11 year old child.

        Listen to the demo of Zero on the MCIS remastered version on Spotify from that era. The ‘she’s the one for me’ is so nasally I thought it had to be a joke. It’s as bad as ‘The Everlasting Gaze’

      Looking forward to watching his Sold Out Concert in May. I am flying out to Texas from Califirnia and meeting up with my sisters and Brother n Law to see him in concert! We connect with his Authenticity in all genres of Rock and Stage presence. He brings honesty to the Stage as well as electric raw emotions. We all love Rock genres and this man knows how to bring it. Its so refreshing to hear real guitar riffs,drums,and keys , authentic real voices. I finally am able to see and hear influences of old Rock inspirations,with the fresh New wave of Rock that Dom brings. Thankful and excited to see the Sold Out Yungblud tour 2026!

      It’s cool, but i do actually like Yungbluds original version of it. He already gave us a recording in a different studio and it was more clean and crisp. We have this, now we need no other takes on the song. We get it, it’s actually a great song, you did great kid. But you don’t need to keep pumping put the same song. Move forwards instead of spinning wheels. If you both done a song together of one you wrote but was un released, that would have been insanely perfect instead

      If you just listen to the remake, you won’t get it…if you listen to the song, then watch the video, you get it…if you listen to the song, watch the video THEN watch the scenes behind tbe video..you REALLY get it 🖤

      If you are not a fan of Yungblud or Billy Corgan and The Smashing Pumpkins … don’t bother listening to either.. you won’t get it 🎃🖤🎃🖤

          That is the beauty of music. There is something for everyone. And nobody is right or wrong. What you just found to be boring..I found to be epic!
          And as far as rock becoming “generic”. I think it’s all about evolution and change. I mean, think about it. Think about how far Rock has changed from The Beatles, which was indeed Rock. Then you look at my favorite form of rock, which is the classic 70s and Big Hair 80s.. a big change from The Beatles. Now here we are…2026..HELLO Yungblud HELLO.       Great collab.
      If it were for an event or something, like a one off.
      I love both artists and both versions.
      Was it needed?.
      Sort of seems like Yungblud was forced into sharing his hit with Billy.
      Like a writ of passage into the American market?.
      Or maybe that’s the plan to help break America?.
      You have enough decent songs of your own Billy stop trying to pinch Dom’s hit record off him!. 🤣

        Andrew James He wasn’t forced to share his song. He asked Billy if they would do it with him, but Billy hadn’t planned on singing on it. Dom insisted he sing on it. The making of the video and them talking about it is on YT on Alison Hagendorfs podcast.

      The music was good, but when Billy sang, he ruined it. Yungbluds original version that’s up for a Grammy is my favorite. Billy actually didn’t know he’d also be singing on it, he said Dom/YB sprung that on him.

        What I didn’t like was Doms to over act on guitar as apposed to gentleness on the original …

      Nah, smashing pumpkins didn’t add any value, he sounds like an old cat dying. His voice is terrible compared to Yungblud. He should leave this song as is, it’s brilliant with his voice……

      Billy looks like the offspring of an orc and a cenobite.
      The Smashing Pumpkins should have quit after Siamese Dream, even Yungblud couldn’t save this.
      Not sure what he was doing with that guitar either.

      It was pretty terrible. The lyrics were shoddy and it just didn’t feel right to me. Felt like it was rushed and it sounded like Corgan was singing into earbuds microphone
