COVET’s Yvette Young Contributes Guitar Work to James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Soundtrack

Yvette Young, acclaimed guitarist for math rock trio Covet, has confirmed her contribution to the soundtrack for the upcoming James Gunn-directed Superman reboot—an exciting addition to DC Studios’ cinematic relaunch.

Young, known for her signature tapping technique and emotionally charged guitar playing, revealed via social media that she was invited to participate in the score by David Fleming, the composer whose work has been featured in HBO’s The Last of Us and films such as Hillbilly Elegy and Blue Planet II.

“When the wonderful David Fleming approached me to help out with guitar for the new James Gunn Superman film/soundtrack, I was like um HELL YES?!?!?”, Young shared. “Thank you so much for trusting me with your sound and expression. This was a really cool opportunity that I had so much fun exploring sounds with!”

She added that she recently had the chance to see the film and described the music as “emotional AF,” encouraging fans to check out both the movie and the soundtrack on streaming platforms. She also teased that she’d be posting behind-the-scenes clips soon.

In a wholesome touch, Young revealed her mom even knit a Krypto the Superdog outfit for her dog Bub in celebration of the milestone.

This marks a major mainstream crossover moment for Young, who has steadily gained a devoted fanbase for her work in the instrumental rock and post-rock scenes, as well as for her solo releases.

While full soundtrack details have yet to be revealed, Superman is slated to hit theaters this Friday (July 11th), and Young’s involvement has already sparked excitement across both the guitar and comic communities alike.
