A new name has entered the straight edge hardcore scene just in time for Edge Day, with members of Stick To Your Guns and Eighteen Visions teaming up in a new band called ALIVE.
Fronted by Josh James, known for his work with Eighteen Visions and Stick To Your Guns, the group also features Stick To Your Guns guitarist and vocalist Chris Rawson alongside drummer Adam Galindo. Their debut EP, ‘The Truth I Know,’ has now arrived, delivering five tracks rooted in the intensity and conviction of ’90s straight edge hardcore.
The release was produced by Taylor Young, whose credits include Twitching Tongues and God’s Hate. According to the EP’s product description, ALIVE draw inspiration from influential straight edge acts including Strife, Trial, Earth Crisis, and Throwdown, while aiming to establish an identity of their own.
The description also frames the title track as both a statement of resistance and a moment of personal reflection:
“Born out of devotion to the uncompromising spirit of 90s Straight Edge hardcore, ALIVE delivers five tracks of raw aggression, conviction, and purpose. Drawing inspiration from the urgency and intensity of bands like Strife, Trial, Earth Crisis and Throwdown, ALIVE builds on that foundation with a sound and perspective all its own.
‘The Truth I Know’ is as much an act of defiance as it is an exercise in self reflection.”
The five-song EP track listing is as follows:
- “The Truth I Know”
- “Soul Left Cold”
- “About To Snap”
- “Alive”
- “X’d Out”
Physical-release pre-orders are available through PLAN X Records, the new straight edge label launched by HardLore, the metal and hardcore podcast. ALIVE’s debut is the label’s first release, arriving at midnight on Edge Day, October 17.
HardLore also shared a statement outlining the motivation behind PLAN X RECORDS, connecting the label’s mission to the personal significance of straight edge and its rejection of self-destruction.
“Introducing PLAN X RECORDS, a new home for straight edge hardcore music.
PX001 releases tonight at Midnight, on Edge Day, from a brand new band called ALIVE.
I have been straight edge since I was 14 years old, and I’ve never thought twice, looked back, OR thought myself above or better than anyone.
But what I do know is that in a world that teaches us to numb ourselves, straight edge taught me how to feel. In a culture that profits from our continuous destruction, it can be the ultimate weapon… Against apathy, against excess, and most importantly, against the slow surrender of the self.
I have never understood the notion that we must poison our minds to escape our reality, we need only the strength to change it. There’s always a better way.
Initiate Plan X. Send demos: hello@planxrecords.com”
With ALIVE’s first EP now available, PLAN X RECORDS is opening its doors to additional straight edge hardcore artists. The label is accepting demos at hello@planxrecords.com.
