Austrian blackened death metal veterans Belphegor have paid tribute to former bassist and vocalist Bartholomäus “Barth” Resch, who reportedly died in a car accident on May 8th.
Resch was a member of the band from 2002 to 2006, though he remained close friends with the group long after his departure. On June 18th, Belphegor frontman Helmuth Lehner shared an emotional statement honoring his late friend and bandmate.
“29 years of loyal brotherhood – what a magnificent and chaotic path we marched together. What a tragedy. You still had so many visions for the future, Herr Goaßbock.
I am devastated by your passing. You leave a huge void, and even that is an understatement. In 2011, you saved my life, Barth.
Thank you for bringing so much color, passion and fire into the years we shared. Thousands of memories, my friend. I swear we shall meet again. I love you Brother!
Pactum in Aeternum – may your spirit roam free and unbound!“
Beyond his time with Belphegor, Resch performed with several other bands, including ArsGoatia and Tabula Rasa. He was also active behind the scenes with Austria’s House Of The Holy festival.
Resch’s passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences from friends and members of the metal community who crossed paths with him throughout his decades in music.
