Not everyone was impressed with the star-studded Ozzy Osbourne tribute at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. Dan Hawkins, guitarist/vocalist of The Darkness, took to social media to tear into the performance, which featured YUNGBLUD, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, and longtime Ozzy collaborator Adam Wakeman.
The group performed a medley of three Osbourne classics, a lineup that also included several musicians who appeared at Ozzy and Black Sabbath’s farewell show this past July.
Hawkins didn’t hold back in his critique, writing:
“Another nail in the coffin of rock n roll. Cynical, nauseating and more importantly; shit.
Makes me sick how people jump on this shit to further their own careers. #whatabunchofcunts”
He followed up by sharing screengrabs of YUNGBLUD, Steven Tyler, and Ariana Grande’s viral reaction to the tribute, adding his own caption: “What a bunch of bellends.”
