Greyhaven has announced they’ve signed with Solid State Records, and will be releasing their new EP, Stereo Grief, through the label on April 12th. Along with the news, the band dropped the first single from the EP, a song called “The Welcome Party“, which is available below.
Brent Mills, the band’s vocalist, offered the following on the new single:
“It’s a classic Greyhaven song, but I think we’ve figured out what that means and how to do that the best way possible, while still exploring new things. This is the first time I’ve tried to tackle a central concept throughout a release. This song, and the EP as a whole, really deal with framing life and death…If these songs can build a house, this is the first knock at the front door.”
The EP draws inspiration from the 1941 Robert A Heinlein short story, ‘And He Built A Crooked House‘. Mills offered an elaboration on that, stating:
“On the EP, this character is traveling through a house where he watches all of these versions of himself. He experiences good and bad moments as well as regret. I struggle with a lot of anxiety and depression. I’m always thinking, ‘I wish I could’ve done that differently.’ By looking through the lens of a person who has access to every variation of life, the project is a way to process a really depressive episode. It leads to acceptance though.”
