Boston hardcore outfit Haywire helped bring some hometown energy to Big Night Live this past weekend during the first-ever East Coast edition of the toy-drive concert series For The Children. The annual charity event, typically hosted on the West Coast, expanded to Boston for a two-day holiday bash benefitting kids in need.
Mid-set, Haywire welcomed fellow Bostonian and Mighty Mighty Bosstones frontman Dicky Barrett to the stage for a lively take on the ska-punk classic “The Impression That I Get” — the 1997 single that became a defining hit for his former band.
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones abruptly called it quits in 2022, with the breakup widely linked to Barrett’s outspoken anti-vaccine stance. Around that period, he recorded a song for a Robert F. Kennedy Jr. rally and departed his role as announcer on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. He has since launched a new project, The Defiant, alongside ex-members of acts like The Offspring.
