(hed)p.e. vocalist Jared Gomes is preparing to step away from the stage for a period of recovery after revealing plans to undergo total knee replacement surgery next month.
Gomes announced that the procedure is scheduled for December 9, 2026, explaining that the operation is connected in part to a serious knee injury he sustained more than two decades ago while touring with SNOT and Soulfly.
In a November 4 social media post, the frontman shared an X-ray of his left knee and recounted how the original injury happened during a performance alongside Max Cavalera. At the time, Gomes was filling in for Benji on Soulfly’s song “Prejudice” when a stage dive ended in a devastating landing.
Gomes detailed the incident and shared his thoughts ahead of the upcoming operation:
“Here is an X-ray of my left knee. I had ACL surgery over 20 years ago.
I tore it on tour with SNOT and SOULFLY.
I was onstage with Max Cavalera, doing Benji’s part on “Prejudice.” I stage dove, got thrown back over the barrier, and landed on one leg in a puddle of beer.
My knee snapped. ACL torn.
I always said I’d do this until the wheels fell off.
Well… the wheels have all but fallen off!
Thanks to y’all, I have health insurance, and on December 9th, I’m getting a new knee.
Thank you for your continued support.
I’m nothing without you guys.
Nothing.”
Gomes also confirmed that he will undergo robotic-arm-assisted total knee arthroplasty. The procedure typically involves a recovery period lasting several months, meaning the announcement could bring an extended stretch of downtime for (hed)p.e. as their vocalist focuses on rehabilitation.
The singer closed his message by thanking fans for their continued support, noting that having health insurance has helped make the surgery possible.
