Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda has confirmed there’s at least one song from the band’s celebrated catalog that remains off-limits when it comes to live performances. In a newly published interview with The Guardian, Shinoda revealed that “One More Light” — the emotional title track from the band’s final album with late vocalist Chester Bennington — will not be making its way back into their setlists any time soon.
Following Bennington’s tragic death in July of 2017, Linkin Park went on an extended hiatus before resurfacing last year with their comeback album, From Zero, and a new chapter that introduced Emily Armstrong as their latest vocalist. While the band have embraced this next era and its new beginnings, some songs from their past remain too painful to revisit.

Speaking on “One More Light,” Shinoda explained:
“The song was actually written for a woman at the label that we worked with who passed away. Then after Chester passed, the world decided that it was about him. And so that’s just too sad to play.”
Originally released as the third and final single from Linkin Park’s 2017 album of the same name, “One More Light” quickly became synonymous with grief and remembrance following Bennington’s suicide. The song, intended to offer comfort, took on new and heavier meaning in the aftermath of his passing — both for fans and for the band themselves.
Despite their ongoing efforts to honor Chester’s legacy while moving forward, it’s clear that some moments still hit too close to home.
