Heavy music institutions Melvins and Napalm Death have unveiled another preview from their upcoming collaborative release, sharing the newly available track “Rip The God.”
The song arrives from the expanded edition of their joint eight-track release ‘Savage Imperial Death March’, which is scheduled for a wide release on April 10th. A previous version of the record was originally issued as a tour-exclusive during a past run the two bands completed together, but the upcoming edition features updated artwork, packaging, and two additional bonus tracks.
“Rip The God” highlights the chaotic chemistry between the sludge metal innovators and grindcore pioneers, blending Melvins’ off-kilter riffing with Napalm Death’s aggressive sonic textures.
Napalm Death bassist/vocalist Shane Embury commented on the creative process behind the track, specifically pointing to Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne’s distinctive guitar work:
“The opening Buzz [Osborne, Melvins vocalist/guitarist] riff begins with that classic timing – a hiccup right at the end of the riff cycle making the riff extra special! Simple yet tricky to remember… it had my head spinning when I played the bass to it – Multiply that head spin with the guitar pedal noise static we all added – God was ripped and drunk on joyful noise…”
With its wider release approaching, ‘Savage Imperial Death March’ revisits a unique collaboration between two of extreme music’s most influential acts, capturing the raw experimentation and energy that defined their shared live performances.
The track “Rip The God” is now available via digital streaming platforms.
