Following an exclusive blood-filled vinyl drop that crashed their website earlier this week, Slipknot have now officially made the deluxe 25th anniversary reissue of their iconic 1999 self-titled debut available for broader pre-order.
Originally produced by Ross Robinson (Korn, Glassjaw), Slipknot was the album that erupted onto the heavy music scene and introduced the world to the chaos and intensity of nine masked Iowans. The record would go on to define an era, helping cement Slipknot as one of metal’s most influential bands.
Roadrunner Records will release the 25th Anniversary Edition of Slipknot on September 5, 2025 across digital platforms, CD, and vinyl formats—including a 6LP box set with blood-splattered vinyl (limited to 1,899 copies), a 2LP, and a 2CD edition. Earlier this week, a hyper-limited run of 100 blood-filled vinyl copies was briefly available through the band’s cryptic site, 742617000027.net, selling out instantly.
According to the official press release:
“This special release immortalizes the band’s creative process at the time when the Iowa nine went from a newly-signed fledgling metal act, to an unexpected and unstoppable cultural force that redefined heavy music for a new generation.”
The expanded reissue features the complete Ross Robinson-produced original album, along with unreleased demos, alternate versions, and test mixes from sessions at SR Audio, Indigo Ranch, and other studios. These raw cuts offer a rare glimpse behind the curtain into the choices and evolution that shaped the record.
One of those demos—“Prosthetics”—has been released today. The track was recorded prior to the sessions at Indigo Ranch and offers a grittier, earlier look at the eerie, slow-burning fan favorite.
Also included in the deluxe package are remixed and remastered live recordings from the band’s legendary early touring cycle. These include a 1999 Hartford, CT set that captures their primal early club energy and 2000 UK recordings that show how Slipknot evolved into a dominant festival force. All audio was sourced from original soundboard DAT tapes, carefully curated and mixed by the band.
These newly unearthed recordings coincide with Slipknot’s global ‘Here Comes The Pain’ tour, which sold out arenas worldwide and featured a historic homecoming set at Knotfest Iowa. Every date included a unique setlist that heavily leaned into the band’s chaotic and era-defining debut.
