Slipknot’s Jim Root Expresses Frustration Over Delayed Release of Slipknot Side Project Album “Look Outside Your Window”

The elusive Slipknot side project album, Look Outside Your Window, remains stuck in release purgatory despite numerous teased release windows over the years. Originally crafted during the 2008 recording sessions for the platinum-certified All Hope Is Gone, the project features M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan, Corey Taylor, Jim Root, and Sid Wilson. The group has described its sound as having a ‘Radiohead’ vibe, setting it apart from the band’s usual ferocity.

The album’s mythical status among Slipknot fans has grown with each passing year. After scrapped plans for releases in 2020 and 2023, Clown hinted this year that the album has been mixed, mastered, and had artwork approved. Yet, it still seems no closer to seeing the light of day.

Now, Jim Root has expressed frustration with the constant delays, even jokingly threatening to leak it himself. In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Root shared:

“Man, I keep telling Clown that I’m just gonna throw it up on YouTube, then put a link to it on my Instagram or something. He’s like, ‘Don’t dude, just don’t.’”

Root speculated that Clown might still be tweaking the mixes but suggested his bandmate might also be “losing focus on it.” For Root, the album appears to be something of a closed chapter, as he went on to state:

“I don’t even remember what any of that stuff sounds like, because it’s been so long since we recorded it. I don’t think I’ve listened to it in probably 10 years. Maybe I’ll go find him after we are done talking, and I’ll be like, ‘Let’s listen to Look Outside Your Window, and let’s release it tonight…’”
