The Amity Affliction have paid tribute to former drummer Joe Longobardi following his recent departure from the band, sharing a heartfelt video montage and message celebrating his eight-year run behind the kit.
Longobardi announced on June 24 that he had decided to leave the Australian metalcore outfit after nearly a decade. Overnight, the band responded publicly for the first time, thanking him for his contributions while wishing him well as he prepares for a new chapter in his personal life.
In their statement, The Amity Affliction revealed that Longobardi is set to become a father and expressed their excitement for what lies ahead for him.
“While we’re sad to see Joe go, we are super happy for him to start this next chapter of his life as a father and wish him all the best. Knowing how exceptional he is at drums we’re certain this is just the beginning of a new journey for him, and we look forward to seeing him when we’re stateside again, big love.”
The band also included Longobardi’s original farewell message alongside the tribute video.
“After 8 years I have decided to leave The Amity Affliction. I feel extremely grateful and fortunate to have spent those years with the band. I wish Johnny, Dan and Joel along with the crew nothing but the very best moving forward. It’s been an incredible journey. Thank you all for the love. See you out there.”
Longobardi joined The Amity Affliction in 2018, becoming an integral part of the band’s lineup both in the studio and on the road. While his departure marks the end of an era, both sides appear to have parted on good terms as he turns his attention toward family life and whatever comes next.
