Venom have responded to the unusual situation of both themselves and Lamb Of God releasing albums titled ‘Into Oblivion’ in the same year.
Venom’s latest record, ‘Into Oblivion,‘ arrived on May 1, while Lamb Of God had already unveiled their own album of the same name earlier this year, sparking immediate discussion among fans over the overlapping titles.
Speaking to Overdrive.it, guitarist/vocalist Stuart “Rage” Dixon and drummer/vocalist Danny “Dante” Needham downplayed any internal tension over the situation, making it clear the band wasn’t overly concerned.
Rage recalled the internal reaction, saying:
“I think there was a bit, like, we were messaging, and then, I’ll not say who it was, one of us went, ‘So fucking what?’”
Needham added that even the label wasn’t alarmed by the coincidence:
“The record label weren’t too concerned. So it wasn’t, like, ‘Shit, we need a quick change of plan.’ It was, like, ‘Nah, nah.’”
Rage was more direct when addressing the timeline behind Venom’s title track:
“We wrote that fucking song five years ago. Fuck that. We were there first.”
Needham also pointed out the gap between writing and release compared to Lamb Of God’s recent output:
“They’ve done three fucking albums since we wrote that fucker, so we were at least touring then.”
Venom first announced their 16th studio album on March 5, while Lamb Of God revealed their own “Into Oblivion” project on January 15, leading to the unexpected naming overlap.
