Andy Williams, the musician best known for his work with Every Time I Die and Atomic Rule, as well as professional wrestling fans for his work as The Butcher, has passed away at the age of 48.
Williams died on Saturday, September 5, following a medical emergency that occurred after his tag team match at an Enjoy Wrestling event in Millvale, Pennsylvania.
According to TMZ, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Williams’ death. No further details regarding the nature of the medical emergency have been publicly disclosed at this time.
Williams had built a career across both the music and professional wrestling worlds. He was a founding member and guitarist for Every Time I Die, appearing on several of the influential metalcore band’s albums before their breakup in 2022. He later became a member of Atomic Rule.
Outside of music, Williams developed a second career in professional wrestling under the name The Butcher. He competed for numerous independent promotions and became particularly recognizable during his several-year run with AEW, where he frequently teamed with The Blade.
Williams and The Blade were longtime tag team partners, with the two continuing to work together on the independent wrestling scene following their time in AEW.
On September 5, Williams competed at Enjoy Wrestling’s “Five Years” event in Millvale. He reportedly collapsed after his match and received immediate medical attention before being transported by ambulance to a local medical facility. The remainder of the event was subsequently canceled.
News of Williams’ passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from friends, collaborators and peers across both the music and wrestling communities.
Zack Cannon, who worked with Every Time I Die, shared a tribute to Williams on social media:
“I straight up wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing in the tour world or know the half the people I know today if wasn’t for Andy Williams bringing me on tour with ETID back in the day. RIP TO A LEGEND.”
Other artists and bands paying tribute to Williams include Josh Scogin of The Chariot, Zao, Blake Louis Prince of TEETH, Shai Hulud, and Devin Shidaker of The Acacia Strain, among others.
Williams leaves behind a legacy spanning two very different worlds, having made an impact as both a musician and professional wrestler. He was 48 years old.
