    Attila’s Chris Fronzak Issues Apology To Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo Over Controversial Joke: “It Was Meant As A Joke, Not A Jab At Gay People”

    Attila frontman Chris Fronzak has publicly apologized to Beartooth vocalist Caleb Shomo following a divisive joke he made online on March 2nd. The remark came after Shomo deleted his Instagram account, reportedly in response to backlash and negativity surrounding Beartooth’s new music video for “Free.”

    Shomo’s image overhaul in the video and accompanying press photos drew mixed reactions on social media. Some of the criticism allegedly extended to comments on posts made by Shomo’s wife.

    “‘Free’ is the start of the next chapter of my music and my life. The emotional roller coaster that is living can be very complicated at times. In one day you can equally experience pure fear and pure joy. This song shows a glimpse of what is to come from the next Beartooth album, which is the most honest depiction of my soul I will most likely ever make,” Shomo said upon the single’s release.

    Following Shomo’s Instagram deletion, Fronzak issued a pair of posts defending his joke as lighthearted. However, many fans interpreted the posts as insensitive, with some calling them homophobic. The situation escalated with back-and-forth commentary from fans and musicians alike.

    Later, Fronzak appeared to reflect on the impact of his words and issued the following apology:

    “I would like to formally apologize for my tweet about Caleb Shomo. I meant it as a joke, but it didn’t come across that way. I don’t know what he’s going through at the moment, but I wish him the best. The world has too much hate rn & I don’t want to add any fuel to that fire… You never know what someone is going through. Therefore, I am sorry, and I will work towards thinking about things deeper before I just word-vomit shit into this bird app. Love yall.”

    The incident also drew support for Shomo from fellow musicians, including Tyler “Telle” Smith of The Word Alive, who voiced solidarity in response to the controversy.
