Crystal Lake Part Ways With Vocalist John Robert Centorrino Following Family Decision

Crystal Lake have announced the amicable departure of vocalist John Robert Centorrino, confirming the split comes as the singer shifts his focus toward family life. The Japanese metalcore band revealed that upcoming live appearances will feature rotating special guest vocalists while they determine their next long-term step.

In an official statement, the band reflected on an intense past year that saw them balancing touring across multiple continents while simultaneously working on new material, including their recent album The Weight of Sound. During that period, Centorrino welcomed a child — an experience the group says ultimately reshaped priorities both personally and professionally.

“Last year was nonstop for Crystal Lake. We were writing and recording while moving from continent to continent playing some of the biggest shows of our career. During this busy time creating ‘The Weight of Sound’ album, John welcomed his child into the world. That brought a deeper meaning to the core idea behind the song and album title — the weight that comes with balancing life, family, and being in a touring band.”

The band explained that several members and team personnel are parents themselves, giving them firsthand understanding of the challenges that come with extended touring schedules and time away from home.

“John has given everything to make it work for us and his daughter, but the international distances and schedule demands have made it increasingly difficult for him to balance the two.”

As a result, both sides agreed that stepping away was the healthiest decision moving forward.

“So, it is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the mutual decision to part ways so John can focus on a path that allows him a healthier balance in his life and music career. We truly want this for John and, as hard as it is for both of us, we know it is the right decision.”

Centorrino joined Crystal Lake in 2023 following the departure of longtime vocalist Ryo Kinoshita, marking a new era for the band after his exit from Pennsylvania deathcore act The Last Ten Seconds of Life roughly a year earlier.

For now, Crystal Lake will continue honoring scheduled performances with guest vocalists as fans await news regarding the band’s future lineup.
