The metal and hard rock community is in mourning following the passing of Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary Prince Of Darkness and a true pioneer of heavy music. Ozzy passed away this morning (July 22nd) surrounded by his family after a long battle with illness, including Parkinson’s Disease.
Just weeks ago, Ozzy was honored at the star-studded ‘Back To The Beginning’ farewell show in Birmingham, UK, alongside his Black Sabbath bandmates. That night served as a fitting tribute to a career that shaped generations. Today, some of the biggest names in rock and metal are paying their respects to the icon who laid the foundation for so much of the heavy music world.
Tributes from Across the Heavy Music Community:
Black Sabbath:
“Ozzy Forever!”
Pantera:
“Thank you for all that you did for metal & Pantera. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you.”
The Smashing Pumpkins:
“We 💙 you too, Ozzy.”
Brandon Boyd (Incubus):
“The Osbournes were uniquely generous and kind to us… He’ll forever hold a place in my heart.”
BillyBio:
“Thank you mighty Ozzy for all the music, memories, inspiration and for taking us on tour!”
Jess Margera:
“None of us would be doing it without this guy.”
Pelican:
“Can never hope to repay our debt of gratitude and inspiration to Ozzy.”
Ozzfest:
“Ozzy Forever.”
Dez Fafara (Coal Chamber / DevilDriver) reflected on Ozzy’s kindness and impact:
“It is with the heaviest heart today that we see the passing of a legend. I was lucky to not only know Ozzy and his family but to have done a track with him. He was the nicest person and helped propel my first band, Coal Chamber, into the mainstream. Ozzy and that family will always mean the world to me. My deepest condolences to the Osbourne family.”
William DuVall (Alice In Chains) shared:
“What an honor to be a part of his last hurrah. Love to Sharon and the family. Love to Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. To all the Sabbath family, my heart is with you.”
Outside of the music world, Jason Mewes (Jay & Silent Bob) also paid his respects, commenting on a heartfelt video Jack Osbourne shared on Instagram — a clip showing Ozzy teaching his son how to say goodnight and wave goodbye to a crowd. Mewes wrote:
“We love you! Sending love Jack, RIP Ozzy.”
Barbara Wylde, wife of longtime Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde, shared her own emotional response on the same post:
“Zakk and I have watched this in tears 10 times. Beautiful Jacky Boy.”
