The fallout surrounding Slipknot and Sid Wilson has taken another turn, with guitarist Jim Root and Stacy Thomson, wife of guitarist Mick Thomson, now offering further context surrounding comments they made after reports of Wilson’s departure first surfaced.
The situation initially erupted on July 31st, when reports claimed that Wilson had been permanently fired from Slipknot. Root responded at the time with a cryptic message urging fans not to immediately take the reports at face value.
“Don’t believe every thing you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.”
Wilson, meanwhile, appeared to brush aside questions regarding his status with the band. Earlier this week, he even introduced himself as a member of Slipknot during the World Scratch Invitational.
That situation became even more confusing on August 14th, when Slipknot briefly published what appeared to be an official announcement confirming Wilson’s departure before subsequently deleting it.
“Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson.
We wish him the best in his future endeavors.

In the aftermath of that post, another statement attributed to Root began circulating among the band’s fanbase. The guitarist appeared to clarify that his original message was written while he himself was uncertain about what was actually happening.
“You couldn’t even believe what I wrote. At the time I wrote it… I didn’t know what to believe. I stand by it though. I still don’t think anyone should believe everything that they read. Time will tell. As it did for my post that didn’t age well.”
Stacy Thomson also found herself addressing comments she made after the initial reports concerning Wilson surfaced.
At the time, Thomson shared a reference to the 1986 comedy ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ that appeared to question the accuracy of what was being reported.
“My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with a girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.”
Then following up with:
“Questions about my reference?
Don’t believe everything you read on the internet, kids!
(And yes Ferris buellers day off is a great movie)”
However, following Slipknot’s brief confirmation of Wilson’s departure yesterday, Thomson was called out over those earlier comments. She subsequently clarified that the situation had not been true when the initial reports emerged, while also indicating that the members of Slipknot have historically been willing to give each other second chances.
The situation remains murky, particularly given Wilson’s own apparent belief that he was still part of the band earlier this week. As of press time, he has not publicly addressed the latest developments.
The apparent split also comes amid reports that Wilson’s treatment of his bandmates played a role in the decision. Those reports surfaced alongside pointed social media comments from Wilson’s former fiancée Kelly Osbourne, which many have interpreted as being directed toward the longtime Slipknot member.
For now, the deleted statement from Slipknot represents the clearest indication yet that Wilson is no longer with the band, although the circumstances that led to his departure remain largely unexplained.
